America's Next Great Inventor

Shearer's Foods, Inc., Just Between Friends, and The National Museum of Education are offering the first ever competition called The Shearer Perfection Student Contest to encourage students in grades 4-8 to demonstrate their creativity and ingenuity by creating an invention that incorporates the use of at least one, and as many as needed,  of the Shearer's brands of chip bags. As a pilot competition, this contest is open to entrants from the state of Ohio and from the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area (See "How to Enter" for the specific Pennsylvania counties).

There will be 10 semi-finalists selected.  From those semi-finalists, three finalists will be brought to Massillon, Ohio, where the finalists will be announced at an Awards Ceremony on March 3, 2012. The 1st place winner will receive $5,000, while the 2nd and 3rd place winners will receive $2,500, and $1,000 Savings bonds* respectively.  The remaining seven (7) semi-finalists, who are not chosen as finalists, will each receive a $50 gift card.  The teacher/mentor of each finalist will receive $500 for the 1st place winner, $250 for the second place winner, and $100 for the 3rd place winner. In addition, there is an opportunity of a lifetime to possibly have your invention manufactured nationally if it teaches a STEM principle.

THE DEADLINE FOR ENTRIES IS JANUARY 18, 2012!

*Savings bond values are at maturity for United States Series EE paper savings bonds.
