MIKE, THE BLUE WHALE

University of Akron students created a life-sized inflatable replica of a blue whale. "Mike", as it is named, was displayed at Akron's First Night festivities for families to walk through. Read more about Mike in this article.

WORLD-RENOWNED PHYSICIST ADVISES AKRON, OHIO STUDENT

Tre Singleton of the National Inventors Hall of Fame School in Akron, Ohio dreams of being a playright one day soon. Imagine his surprise and delight to receive an encouraging phone call from world-renowned physicist, Dr. Ronald Mallett. Dr. Mallett used Skype to connect with Tre and said this: "I learned about the things that he's working on and gave him specific suggestions that could help his professional development. I enjoyed speaking with Traci [Buckner, his principal] and was moved by the passionate concern that she and her staff have in helping Tre and all of their students." The rights to Dr. Mallett's book, "Time Traveler" have been purchased by Hollywood Film Producer, Spike Lee.

2011 STUDENT BOARD MEMBER WILL JACK CHOSEN TO COMPETE IN INTERN'L SCIENCE FAIR

UPDATE: From the Hudson Hub Times, 2012

"Sophomore Will Jack won the Grand Prize for Plasma from the Coalition for Plasma Science (CPS) at the International Science and Engineering Fair sponsored by Intel. The event was held in Los Angeles, California where more than 1,500 high school students from 65 countries participated in the week long event. As Grand Prize winner for his D+D Fusion experiment in an Interial Electrostatic Nuclear Fusion Confinement Reactor, in the Physics category, Will was also awarded $1,500."

NICK FRANKOVITS PROFILED IN THE NEWS

The National Museum of Education's Executive Director, Nick Frankovits, was profiled in the Hudson Hub Times in 2012. The article, "Head of the Class", follows another profile in the Beacon Magazine by the same name in 1988. Take a look behind the scenes at Nick's journey with students and his contributions to young people. There are also sample pieces of artwork as Nick is an accomplished graphite pencil artist.

Australian Visits Akron

Bernie Fitzsimons, an Australian businesman and educator, visited Akron on June 2, 2011. He received a scholarship for his trip to the USA and Canada to learn about STEM programs. In Akron, he toured the National Museum of Education, the National Inventor's Hall of Fame school and met with Mayor Don Plusquellic. During his North American stay, he also visited Boston, Washington, DC, New York City, Philadelphia and Toronto.
