ERDEN ERUÇ SETS OFF FOR PACIFIC CROSSING IN ROW BOAT
Erden Eruç, who is a Turkish born American resident, climber, adventurer, environmentalist and former engineer with a business degree, seeks to circle the Earth using only his own power. He is currently on a solo 8-month rowing trek across the Pacific Ocean en route to Australia. His specially-designed rowboat, costing $40,000, is only 23 feet long and he left California on July 10, 2007.
WHY?
Beginning with this spectacular feat, he intends to create educational opportunities for school children, raise awareness of environmental issues and inspire learners while pursuing the ultimate test of survival during his human powered circumnavigation.
The National Museum of Education and Around-n-Over.org are pleased to announce a partnership to highlight human ingenuity and innovation. Erden's boat is equipped with Hobo Data Loggers provided by the Onset Computer Corporation.
EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS The National Museum of Education, in partnership with Whalenet, Around-n-Over, and Northwest Invention Center, is sponsoring all educational programs that will revolve around Erden's trip, including the geology, biology, ecology, atmospheric and oceanography studies.
Students of all ages from kindergarten through college have a chance to follow along!
